Paid Blogging and the FTC

I didn’t write anything last night. It was a long day and I didn’t feel like writing when I got home. Kathy let us come over and get into her jacuzzi for a while. It felt wonderful. I woke up with a headache again. My neck is sore and stiff and there is 100 percent chance of rain today.

The FTC has ruled that anyone getting paid to write an ad must disclose that they are doing so on there blog. My blogs no longer have those kinds of ads so I don’t have to worry about it. What the FTC does not realize is that they have finished what Google started in 2007 by stripping the page rank of any blogger who accepted money for writing about a product in there blog. If you put on in your web pages that you accept money for writing ads with do follow links on your blog Google will strip you of your page rank. Now that its the law no blogger has a chance in hell at keeping there page rank if they disclose that they accept money recommending products on there blogs. I’m not really sure how they plan to enforce that law though. There are so many ways to get around that kind of thing. Since it only applies to Americans you just have to create a blog that looks like its being written from another country by using a proxy from another country. If the government is going to make rules like this they really should hire people that know a thing or two about the internet to to help them make them.
